The following art project is a favorite in my sister's second grade
art class.
Materials Needed:
Cardboard
Scissors
Heavy duty art paper
Wax crayons
Black liquid tempura paint with a few squirts of Dawn detergent
Paint brush
Bright color construction paper (several inches longer and wider than
the art paper)
Glue stick
Directions:
1. Using the scissors, cut the cardboard into a large comb-like shape.
This will be used to comb over the painting to create designs.
2. On the heavy-duty art paper use the crayons to draw a repetitive
pattern, such as zigzags, stripes or other shapes. Totally cover the one
side of the paper with the crayon drawing.
3. Paint the black tempura paint over the crayon drawing, until the
entire side of the paper is black.
4. Use the cardboard comb to comb over the wet paint, creating a new
pattern and uncovering some of the crayon pattern below.
5. Allow to dry.
6. Mount the dried picture onto the center of the brightly colored
construction paper, allowing the construction paper to form a frame
around the artwork. Secure using the glue stick.
