Whether children celebrate Easter or not, they usually enjoy decorating
Easter eggs. Unfortunately when the project is complete, there are
dozens of hard boiled eggs to consume. And after a few days of egg
salad, those eggs become rather unappealing.
Another
option is to remove the inside of the raw egg, before decorating. All
this requires is a sharp pointed object, such as an ice pick or skewer.
Depending on the age of the children, it might be best for the adult to
handle the *emptying* of the egg.
Carefully poke a small hole into each end of the egg. From one end,
gently blow into the egg, allowing the egg to seep out of the other
hole, into a bowl. The egg can then be used for scrambled eggs or baked
in a recipe.
Gently wash
the egg shell in water and dry. Set it on a paper towel and allow to dry
completely.
Decorate the
eggs as you would normally color Easter eggs. After they dry, use
fishing line to strand a group of the eggs together and hang as a
garland.
Remember, it
is best for small children to NOT handle the raw eggs. Since
children tend to put their hands into their mouth, we advise having an
adult prepare the egg shells for coloring.
