In
1985 Robeth Publishing released Mountain/Hi-Desert Guide.
Three years later Robeth Publishing brought out its annual, full-color
magazine, Wrightwood Magazine. This glossy production saw
only two issues, 1988 and 1989.
The
first issue included a poster insert; a whimsical map depicting
Wrightwood Village, by artist Cathi Julien, who created many of the
covers for Mountain/Hi-Desert Guide.
Wrightwood Magazine was produced during
the infancy of desktop publishing, when color layouts involved manual
separations, and black and white photographs needed to be sent in for
screening prior to layout. Hot wax and rubber cement helped secured
copy to the layout boards, and rub-on letters created the headlines.
PageMaker
was used, to some extent, yet it too was in its infancy. The laser
printer, used for producing copy, could only handle a minimum number of
fonts at one time.
Contributors to the publication included local
talents. June Woodmansee handled advertising sales, Carolyn
Burleson and Debbie Burwell were copy editors, Susan Johnson, Josh
Bryant and Frances Yarnall were feature writers, and photographers Helga
Wallner, Ken Hamada, Tony Spores, and Hillinger’s Photography
contributed to the effort.
The editor and publisher was Bobbi Holmes.
Robeth Publishing has been absorbed by Robeth Publishing, LLC, where
Bobbi continues to work on new projects.
