You were outside with your toys,
when suddenly I realized there was no noise. From the door I called your
name,
I warned you sternly, this wasn’t a game.
Outside I flew and searched the grounds.
It was painfully clear you weren’t around. Remembering house rules
wasn’t hard,
you were to stay within the yard.
Completely possessed by a mother’s fear,
I wondered, was danger near?
Had I noticed a stranger’s car?
Or had you simply wandered too far?
Once again I yelled your name.
Inside I felt a mother’s pain.
When suddenly I heard you call,
over the fence you climbed, looking small.
In frantic tones I ranted and raved.
Yet within I knew my sanity was saved.
I called you quickly to my side
and I held you tightly as I cried.
